The Usual Suspects

Left to Right: Moonbeam Honesty, Dew, Phoenix, Raziel, Winchester Mansion, Moira McNabb

In every story, there’s that one character who enjoys getting in trouble and getting everyone else in trouble. The troublemakers, so to speak.   Obviously, my stories are not the exception.

I made this illustration, with the most mischievous of my characters from my stories for a new banner in my patreon and facebook page, but of course, I just had to make them full body to share them with you all.

Moonlight Honesty is from Gradients, which is currently a Patreon-exclusive strip and you get the whole archive for just $1.00 USD a month. Updates on Fridays.

Dew is from Dream Keeper Robin, that you can read for free at Tapas (Link on the main menu), or buy at my store in physical form. Updates on Mondays.

Phoenix is from Traveling Seers, that you can read at Tapas (link on the main menu). Updates on Wednesdays.

Raziel is from Devil in Disguse. More about him to come out soon 😉

Winchester Mansion is, of course, from my Haunted House series, that you may have seen here.

And finally Moira is from my very first professional comic, I.Doll.  But hers is a story for another time.

Traveling Seers Strike again

Have I mentioned I love Baseball? Because I do. I adore the sport, I adore everything around the sport, and there’s nothing I like more than watching games while I draw. So… yeah, the Traveling Seers are dear to my heart. As I mentioned before, I am just introducing them in English, despite being a bit older for Mexican readers, so I hope you read the comic here, and subscribe to get all the updates!

Traveling Seers Comes Back

In 2015, I started in spanish a series that is really, really close to my heart: Traveling Seers.

The story of a baseball team made up of mediums, the only ones allowed to play in the Afterlife League, where all those people who loved baseball in life can keep playing for eternity.

I published two books of short stories in spanish, Traveling Seers and Traveling Seers: The spirit of the Game, but they have never been available in English… until now, sort of.

Starting this Wednesday, September 5, you can read the stories of the Traveling Seers  Here. For now, I’m starting sharing the stories that are already available in Spanish, only translated, but after a while I will also start adding completely new stories (That will, in time, make the third volume of this series). Of course, if you want to buy the volumes in spanish, they’re still in stock at the Store.

I really hope you enjoy this new adventure, and  while the real Baseball season is about to end, you have fun with the new afterlife season.

Gradients Too

I’ve talked about Gradients (previously Abre Una Ventana), very recently. Just when I was announcing the beginning of the strips on Patreon, I made a series of most of the main cast for Instagram, that I am sharing here again.

Aria, Henry, Moonbeam Honesty, Luisa, René, Romeo, and Xolotl look a bit different when I make them in traditional techniques, but they’re still my beloved kids.

Gradients

From Left to Right: Romeo, Rene, Aria, Luisa, Moonbeam Honesty, Noemi, Xolotl and Henry

Around 15 years ago, I was called by my editor at Vanguardia Editores, Mr. Arnulfo Flores (R.I.P.) to tell me about a new magazine he was launching. The magazine, Saga Shojo, was a huge risk for mexican market: one that would be run by women, with only stories by women and only women collaborators. And he wanted me to be the editor, and to make a story “like Friends”. I was all up for editing, but there was a small problem… I hated Friends.

There were other problems (such as the resistance to more LGBT+ friendly stories from both audience and editing staff), but I created Abre una Ventana (Open a Window. Long story that has to do with my love for musicals), and la Saga Shojo had the love of the readers for about 10 issues. (Well, less according to sale numbers, but due to mr. Flores’s faith and stubborness, we lasted 10 issues). And while the others stories closed, I left mine open ended because I hadn’t finished with the characters.

In 2006, I tried to relaunch it with the Oubilette magazine. But due to time, and other situations, I couldn’t get past issue 2.

Still, I didn’t forget Romeo and the gang. And so now I can tell you all that I have written the whole story (22 chapters of 16 pages each, more or less) , and while I am drawing it, I am doing small strips with the characters, that am posting in Patreon, once a week.  First strip of the month is free for all, the other three are for Patreons starting at $1.00 USD.

So, I hope you all like it, and trust me, you will be seeing more of the gang around here too.

And of course, I hope you follow me in Patreon too! 😀

Dream Keeper Robin Strip Style

I have to say, one of the things I love about working with Mandi Gordon, Dream Keeper Robin’s editor, is that she keeps challenging me to do better every time. One of her challenges was to try and change my style, not for the comic itself (That you can read at Tapas, updating every monday), but for illustrations.

So here they are, looking a lot more comic-strip than usual, for a nice exercise with color sharpies.

Traveling Seers

Traveling Seers is a project very dear to my heart, even if it is on temporary hiatus. It was the last spanish-first comic I did, and the very first Mexican Baseball Comic  published -ok, so I self-published, it still counts.

The story is about a baseball team formed by different kinds of psychics, who play baseball against the ghosts of those who loved the game. And well, I love my team. And I love their manager, Murphy the Goat, who is a bit infamous for… other reasons.

I hope to come back to them soon. I am working on the third volume, but it’s slow. Still, I never forget them.

Dream Keeper Robin 3

Since the fight with Erin, the Earth Squire, was interrupted by a Mitakan Agent, Robin, Alex and Erin venture into a different dimension to fight the new enemy. Unfortunately, Robin still has not enough information, and Gavin and Zander are MIA. Still, Robin is not going to let anyone threaten Earth, even if he still can’t get his warmace out of the medallion, or get some answers from the Alnitak’ Squires.

Black and white Comic, 32 pages. English language. Soon for sale on the e-store, but for now you can get it at Conque 2018!

You can also follow it one page a week at:

Dream Keeper Robin Monochrome

For my daily drawings, I choose to do an exercise in monochrome ideas with the Robin Cast. I have to say, some were very rewarding, others made me see colors in a very different way. So here they are, Robin, the Elemental Squires and the mysterious Orion, for all to you to enjoy.

By the way, if you’re a Robin fan, stay tuned! I’ll be announcing soon the pre-sale of Dream Keeper Robin vol. 3!

Dream Keeper Robin Masquerade Ball

Last week, as part of my daily drawing challenge, I decided to do some portraits of the Dream Keeper Robin cast in a Masquerade Ball, to practice more their personalities. And after 10 days, here is the whole set:

Robin really enjoyed the first modeling session.
Zander looks great in his moon mask.
Alex is gorgeous in her sun mask
Gavin missed his beak when in human form, so he got a replacement.
Blaze looks fiery, as always.
Calani is a joy to draw every time.
Dew is always fun
Erin is always dreamy.
Orion doesn’t quite get the idea of a masquerade ball…
And Robin really didn’t enjoy the second modeling session, no.
