Scooby Apocalypse

I love Scooby Doo.

This is not a joke, I don´t mean it ironically. I really, really love Scooby Doo. When I was a little girl, I adored watching it -yep, even the Scrappy Doo episodes- although some jokes and cameos went right over my head. I think the only series I disliked were the 13th Ghosts (Because Riff Raff is a bit worse than Scrappy), and some of the Shaggy-only movies because I didn’t like the Scooby Gang being separated.

Hell, I OWN the two Live action movies. And have the soundtracks in my Ipod.

So of course, I also have a collection of “Dark” Scooby Doo reimaginings and when DC announced Scooby Doo apocalypse, I was one of the five people who REALLY wanted to see where it went. Spoiler alert: It has been going to some amazing places.

Fred, for example. He’s Daphne’s cameraman for a Paranormal Investigation TV Show that only like, five people watched before the apocalypse. Completely in love, and always ready to defend Daphne even if she ends up saving him more often than not. Rumors say he might die, but I am crossing my fingers they won’t go there as I adore him.

Then you have Daphne. The rich girl who decided she wanted to do something off her life and started doing TV journalism. Only she one bit too much, and was sent to a bad cable network to investigate fake ghosts. Oh, she also is hard core survivalist and the undisputed leader of the group.

Velma is a basket case of issues. Very anti-social and insecure, she joined her brothers to “improve” humanity with a nano project that went a bit out of hand. In her defense, she tried to stop it, but was too late. Now she’s trying to atone for all she did with the help of the Gang, even if she and Daphne butt heads more often than not.

Shaggy is adorable. A very pacifist man who ended up working for Velma’s project as dog handler because he LITERALLY didn’t read what he signed up for, and then managed to save Scooby from termination. They are the bestest friends. And he is always ready to help even if he’s terrified.

Scooby also is terrified more often than not. A “failed” Smartdog prototype, he can sort of talk, and express himself with a smart-holographic emoticon producer. Yes, it sounds silly, but it works. And while he’s not as cowardly adorable as his original counterpart, he is still afraid and only vanquishes that fear to help his friends.

Unfortunately, I can’t speak much about Scrappy without giving BIG spoilers. So let it just be said that while you might start hating him as much as you hated the original counterpart, he does grows on you. Like fungus. And then you feel bad for laughing at that joke.

I mean it.

Finally, we have Daisy. She’s Velma’s sister in law, and… another spoilerific character.

Seriously, read the comic. You won’t regret it no matter what your feelings of the original series are.

Oh, btw, all these were drawings of my weekly color practices, this time done with colored sharpies.

Cats Make Bad Familiars

This is a one page comic I made last year for a contest (That, unfortunately, I didn’t win). While I know that cats are by tradition the witches’ familiars, my own experience with my cats make me wonder… how did they manage to get ANYTHING done.

(those who follow me in facebook… yeah, the cat is based on my beloved Hei Hei)

Villisca Axe Murder House

After doing the Stephen King Haunted Houses last year, I kind of got inspired to do more, only that instead of doing more literary houses, I decided to try and work with some real pieces of architecture that have been said to be haunted.  And here’s the first of the set:

The now named Villisca Axe Murder House sits on Villisca, Iowa. The whole story is quite dreadful as in one night seven people died inside her, without the murder ever being caught. After… well, some people claimed to see shoes filled with blood if they stayed to sleep there (something that is no longer possible).  So, what other secrets does she keep?

Equestria Girls’ Portraits

I really love the Equestria girls. They’re so cool, and they have a very interesting palette. That’s why when I don’t have a fandom for my daily drawings, I default to them.

Of course, if you are interested in the fandom polls, they happen in my facebook (link on the sidebar) and my Patreon (same). And well, I hope you enjoyed the video process of Sunset Shimmer I posted a few weeks ago.

Steampunk Writer’s Block

I love, love, LOVE Steampunk aesthetic. One of my dreams is one of these days to make a steampunk story. In the meantime, I get to play with the cosmic family. So here are all of them in a steampunk version that well, suits them all very, very well.

Under the waves

Third of my half-naked cute guys. This one likes to swim near corals and beautiful underwater landscapes. And man, it was really, really fun to color all the waves!

Copic, Aquarelle and white gel pens.

Fire Brigade

Enen no Shobutai is one of those mangas that grabbed me by surprise. I’m not a big fan of Shonen anymore, and I hate Chosen One narratives, but the rich world where fire fighters actually FIGHT fire rather than extinguish fire kind of caught me fast. Like, well, a wild fire. Every character has a great arc, and while there’s one -not portrayed here- that has waaay too much fanservice for my tastes, it’s still a VERY recommended read.

BTW, thanks to some friends there’s a patch that allowed me to scan enough pictures to keep on Calico Chimera  updated on time, but any help to get a more permanent solution will be really appreciated in both Patreon and Ko-fi.

Drawing Sunset Shimmer

I’m sorry I have not been updating Calico Chimera as religiously as I had, but unfortunately my computer decided my scanner was too old and uncool so it no longer recognizes it.  I’ve tried to solve the issue, but it’s looking it’s going to take a while (And, well, if you want to help a bit by becoming a patreon or sending me some money through ko-fi, the links are on the sidebar always).

In any case, I am trying to do more digital art so that I can share it with you, and other fun stuff. Like coloring videos for my youtube channel and for my patreon. The first one is free for all to see, so here’s how I drew Sunset Shimmer from last week’s daily drawings.
