Pie Dragons

Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Lemon. Choose your flavor

This is a new project I’ve been working on: the Pie Dragons. Each Dragon represents a different kind of pie, and has a personality that matches (Apple is really traditional, Blueberry is mischievous, Cherry is very lovable, and Lemon… Lemon is cute). For now, they’re just stickers (Available at the store, will be fixing it really soon, and at conventions where I have a table), but I hope soon to make magnets too since.. come on, Pie! Everyone loves Pie!

You can also get the coloring book pages if you join my Patreon, as Apple is February’s reward.

I Zombie

It’s no secret I love Zombies. Well, horror in general, but zombies have a special place in my heart because I adore almost every story that has zombies. So it was no surprise that I completely fangirl over I Zombie despite being a bit behind due to Netflix LA not bringing season 3 soon enough (and when I was in Orlando, I was a bit too busy to binge on the season)  Still, on the series of daily drawings, I just had to draw the cast of the best zombie series on tv, hands down.

Air Balloons

Another one of the cute half-naked guys I’m doing. He likes to meditate while watching air balloons. Here the challenge was to make the reflection, so I think I will work on them a bit more.

Copics with Aquarelle and white gel pen.

Apocalypse through the ages

As part of my daily drawings, I made a series of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse from Writer’s Block dressed in the 1900 century fashion, one per decade. This was so much fun, that I ended up deciding on another project around period clothing, since at times, it was hard to decide which horseman went with what decade (Let’s be honest, Janna-war kind of monopolized the last century), and what clothing they should wear. The only constant was that Carmen wore mexican fashion, because well, it’s her favorite place on Earth.

Red Skies, take warning.
1900 – Janna
Not a good decade to travel through the seas
1910 – Thanatos
Although to be honest, she looks more like a female Mahlon here
1920 – Carmen
Pestilence was also busy in the thirties
1930 – Mahlon
War was again in the horizon in the 40's.
1940 – Janna
We invented corn syrup. Famine was happy.
1950 – Carmen
He always look fashionable
1960 – Thanatos
In the Seventies... Janna had... issues
1970 – Janna
The eighties were hard work for Pestilence
1980 – Mahlon
She only wanted to have fun.
1990 – Carmen

Mountain Top

One of my goals for 2018 is to make more art. Not just for Writer’s Block (that you can read at tapas.io/series/Writersblock) or Dream Keeper Robin (every monday, tapas.io/series/Dreamkeeperrobin) but also just because. So I started doing some cute half naked guys and decided to share the first one with you.

Copic markers with Aquarelle pencils and a little bit of gel white pen.

Happy New Year Everyone

2018 is here, and well, we all survived so far. I can’t deny that 2017 was hard, but it also brought great challenges and new friendships. So to face 2018 right, I decided I am going to do at least one drawing a day.  I actually started on Dec. 22, to practice and make sure I could keep the rhythm of my other projects (Dream Keeper Robin #3, and of course, the continued Writer’s Block), as you may have seen if you follow me on instagram (instagram.com/luxshinedraws). So here are all the 2017 small daily drawings, from 22-12 to 31-12.

So here’s for a great 2018, filled with art and emotion. I can’t wait to see what is in store for us.

Art Summary 2017

So… we’re in the final post of the year. First year I told myself I was going to be constant with my posting on social media, and I re-started my own site and brand as Calico Chimera. It’s been a bumpy ride, to be honest, but I am happy with the results, especially as well, it’s the first time I am able to fill one of these Art Summaries with one image per month (and choosing some months was HARD), and I’m really happy with the results.

(BTW, the blank template is from DustBunnyThumper at Deviantart. Credit where Credit is due)

I did notice that I forgot to post some of the images here. Sure, I decided that Deviant Art would be mostly for fanart, and everywhere else for everything, but I never posted the Horsemen and Squires in Art Noveau borders here! That was a big overlook! (So I guess I will post them in 2018, just for competition sake). Also, I have to balance more my finished color original pieces and the fanart since this year it looks as I did more fanart (But of course, that doesn’t count comic pages, or sketches)

Most of this comes, of course, thanks to the amazing support I’ve had this year. And since this is the last post of the year, I can’t let it go without thanking Mandi Gordon, Writer’s Block writer and Dream Keeper Robin’s editor. Half of the illustrations here wouldn’t exist if she hadn’t supported me, pushed me to my limits, and kept pushing me from under my drawing table.

In any case, thank you for reading this, thank you for being with me and supporting me through 2017. Here’s to 2018 where I hope we all have a much better year!

Inktober 2017 part 3

Third part of my 2017 Inktober, with Stephen King’s most amazing ladies. Despite me trying to pick a random order, for some reason here is where the most terrifying eldrich abominations ended up (except for one, who I had chosen to be the last one). It also ended up having my two favorite strong women of all his books, Bev and Dayna.

Perse – Duma Key
Mother – Revival
Susannah Dean – The Dark Tower Series
Beverly Marsh – It
Mrs. Massey – The Shining
Trish McFarland – The Girl Who loved Tom Gordon
Rhea of the Coos – The Dark Tower Series
Rose Madder – Rose Madder
Dayna Jurgens – The Stand

Inktober 2017 part 2

When I drew this 9 images,  I was still on top of my inktober deadline. And that was even stopping to read some of the books that I hadn’t read in a long time.

Some of these are my favorites,  like Carrie and Margaret White, and of course, Annie Wilkes. Again, what I love about Stephen King is that his women are full characters, not just cardboard tropes.

Abra – Dr. Sleep
Margaret White – Carrie
Jessie Burlingame – Gerald’s Game
Annie Wilkes – Misery
Alice Maxwell – Cell
Carrie White – Carrie
Polly Chalmers – Needful Things
Ardelia Lortz – The Library Policeman
Lisey Landon – Lisey’s Story

Inktober 2017 part 1

This was the first year I could complete Inktober (Ok, so I was a bit late due to my trip to Orlando and Spooky Empire, but I did finish). Most of the reasons why, I think, was because I choose a subject I was passionate about, and that I hadn’t had the chance to draw much: Stephen King’s amazing female characters.

So here it’s the first part of the Inktober set, now scanned and cleaner than when I took photos for Instagram. I  hope you like them as much as I did.

Donna Reed – Cujo
Susan Norton – Salem’s Lot
Holly Gibney – Mr. Mercedes
Ellen Carver – Desperation
Dolores Claiborne – Dolores Claiborne
Charlie McGee – Firestarter
Nadine Cross – The Stand
Mother Carmody – The Mist
Henrietta Dodd – The Dead Zone
